Jan 11, 2011

Immediately after returning from Afghanistan, Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle had a telephone conversation with his Iranian counterpart, Ali Akbar Salehi.

On behalf of the German Government, Federal Minister Westerwelle expressed Germany’s condolences and sympathy in response to the plane crash which yesterday claimed dozens of lives in Iran.

In the course of what was a very in-depth conversation, Federal Minister Westerwelle thanked Foreign Minister Salehi for his personal engagement in the case of the two German journalists imprisoned in Iran. He renewed his call for them both to be returned to Germany as swiftly as possible.
