As the third largest contributor, the Federal Republic of Germany has played an active role within UNESCO ever since its accession to it. Currently, Germany is deputy chair of UNESCO’s Executive Board and stands as candidate for the World Heritage Committee.
Minister of State Pieper expressly welcomed the fact that Director-General Bokowa will also travel to Dresden during her visit to Germany. The Dresden Elbe Valley was removed from the World Heritage List in 2009 due to the construction of the Waldschlösschen Bridge.
