Press release: Statement by Ambassador Wittig on “10 years after 9/11”
Ten years after 9/11, the world commemorates the heinous terrorist acts of 9 September 2001 that have killed and injured thousands of innocent civilians of many faiths and nations.
On the occasion of today’s commemoration in the General Assembly of the United Nations, German Ambassador Wittig issues the following statement:
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families and friends.
The attacks on 9/11 marked a new horrific dimension of international terror threatening international peace and security. The international community immediately stood together to cope with the challenge of the attack on the core values of the United Nations.
The international community has made clear that acts of terrorism are criminal und unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, wherever, whenever and by whomsoever committed.
We share the conviction that we must jointly combat terrorism, within the rule of law and in accordance with our responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations.”
