Foreign Minister Westerwelle: End the standstill in the Middle East peace process

Mar 1, 2013

Foreign Minister Westerwelle held a meeting with Tony Blair, Quartet Representative, at the Federal Foreign Office this morning, Friday March 1st, 2013. The talks focused on ways to bring new momentum to the Middle East peace process. Foreign Minister Westerwelle said after the meeting:

“We urgently need to end the standstill in the Middle East peace process. We are working intensively with our international partners to smooth the way for the start of new, direct talks. I appeal to Israelis and Palestinians to use the window of opportunity opened up by the arrival of the new US Administration and President Obama’s planned visit to the region. Only a two-state solution can bring lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians.”

Regional conflicts, fragile or collapsed states, armed conflicts, terrorism and organized crime – all have grave consequences for the people who suffer under them. They also threaten the security and stability of entire regions and peoples.
