Foreign Minister Westerwelle’s words on the death of Hugo Chavez

The death of the Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez was announced last night. Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement this morning, March 6, 2013, in Berlin:

“The death of Hugo Chavez marks the end of an era for Venezuela. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time. Our condolences go to the Venezuelan people.
I am confident that after a period of mourning,
Venezuela will successfully enter a new era. Venezuela is a country with huge potential, and democracy and freedom are the way in which to realize this potential.”
