Mar 7, 2013

21 United Nations observers were yesterday kidnapped by Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights. Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today, March 7,2013:

“I condemn in the strongest possible terms yesterday’s kidnapping of UN observers in the Golan Heights and I welcome the UN Security Council’s prompt and clear response. Neutral United Nations personnel must not be allowed to become pawns in the civil war in Syria.
I call upon those responsible to release the UN observers immediately.”
