Bernward Geier was unanimously selected to serve as Coordinator of the German NGO Focal Group. Mr. Geier’s nomination was put forward by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM), the organic world umbrella organization based in Bonn, where he had previously served as director for 18 years.

Resolution 1540 (2004) is a decision of the Security Council taken under Chapter VII of the United Nations Charter affirming that the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons, as well as their means of delivery, constitutes a threat to international peace and security. The resolution is significant as a binding instrument to prevent proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and their means of delivery with respect to the activities of non-State actors.
